Reminiscences that titillate
It is worth reading Dennis Bloodworth's The Tiger and the Trojon Horse to understand how Lee Kuan Yew came into power in 1959 on the coattail of Lim Yew Hock and Special Branch who provided him Samaritian intercession to curb Communist domination for him to assume power. I think Lee Kuan Yew was cognitive but for political reason did not publicly acknowledge.
What horrrified him was soon after he became prime minister he was confronted by colossal ground pressure obviously organised by the Communists to dismantle the Special Brannch. The public was mot aware. This was a test of his resilence which boggle-minded him how to react. It must be God's blessing that there was a genial British expatriate Special Branch officer Richard Corridon who rose to the occasion of a saviour. In fact he was a benefactor of Lee Kuan Yew and highly intellectual and ingenious. He was able to convince Lee Kuan Yew to make the right decision. Just imagine a Singapore without a Special Branch with the Communists running around in havoc. You think you can still be sitting here enjoying your properity and freedom?
Corridon was so learned and competent that he could have been the Director of Special Branch but Alan Blades was senior and equally competent. Corridon was content with his fate.
Lee Hsien Loong and Lawrence Wong were still sucking their mother's milk and they should really have deep introspection to comprehend how divinely bestowed fortunate they are in their present luxurious situatiion because of the sacrificies of the first generation leaders like Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Keng Swee.so that they can hypocritically pocket millions of people's money for so-called golden public service. Do they think they made the sacrificies for them to plunder? So can the venal Lawrence Wong start to do his duty conscentiously to honour the souls of these leaders.by reducing their obscene astronomical salaries to a reasonable level like that of the American President. Do you want people to address you a people's prime minister?
George Bogaars was the most outstanding Special Branch Director in SB history. Lee Kuan Yew regarded him as a god and relied very heavily on him for his political and personal survival. He was so competent in curbing the Communist revolutionary agitation and maintaining the security situation from going into agitation so that Lee Kuan Yew and his harried ministers can sleep peacefully.
All good things must come to an end as the Chinese say. George Bogaars eventually had a fall-out with Lee Kuan Yew. This was not surprising but could not be unexpected. with the volaltility of Lee Kuan Yew. His shabby treatment of George Bogaars following that was not the kind of gratitude that Lee Kuan Yew should show considerng Bogaars had saved his life before. Was there some kind of retribution? Lee Kuan Yew had suffered very badly on his deathbed.
George Bogaars was a very sad and disillusioned person when called home to be with the Lord.
Can the honourable Lawrence Wong shows that he is indeed a people's prime minister by transcending his voracity for greed and take action post haste to reduce the obscene astronomical ministerial salaries to a reasonable level like that of the American President.
May God bless you.
